The first days after the move

The second day after moving Diomedea was screwing angle iron bracings across the supporting post that are holding her upright. Chains as well were strapped from each post under the belly of the yacht and fixed to the opposite side post. The end result made us all feel very comfortable knowing she will not fall over in even a strong wind.

Third day was cleaning and removing all the loose materials from within Diomedea and learning about her. When I first inspected the yacht there was three large v-shaped hard plastic holding tanks sitting on the back deck belonging in the bilge. I believed two were for water and one was for diesel fuel. Turns out those tanks are all for water which is great, more fresh water the better.  With the help of MR R, we located the diesel fuel tank along with the holding tank for the head (toilet). Both are mounted behind the head wall. Having a holding tank for the head is a big bonus as marinas and costal moorings require yachts to have one.

Fourth day was disconnecting the helm (steering wheel) and unbolting the centre console floor to be able to lift out the motor. This was not an easy job as the base of the helm had been sicaflexed in place. I now vouch that sicaflex works well even after ten years.   Disconnecting the motor as these jobs go went really easy until I got to the exhaust. One of the exhaust bolts had corroded, with nothing left of the nut for a spanner to hold onto. We will lift the motor out with the exhaust elbow still attached. Once the motor is removed, I can weld another bolt onto the end of the damaged bolt and remove it.

Finally before leaving the yacht to return to my work away, I took mother to visit the yacht. This was great for both of us as she has some really good ideas and enjoyed the experience.
