Yacht move

Once the contract to buy Diomedea was completed came time to find a place to put her and how to get her there, once there how to stand her up without a cradle.

Finding a location was not easy due to the fact the property needed to be away from neighbors to be able to make noise, grit blast and spray paint. A forty foot (12 meter) yacht sitting on the front lawn in a typical street may up set some people if their view or sun light is blocked out. I did have one such offer from a kind lady when I ran an ad for a spot to rent.

I did find one rural property to rent which would have been good in the sense we could have had a good old party there or two. I had Rowan Chick (the best and most trusted local yacht removalist) check out the property for me. The property had a 300 meter long driveway leading up to the house. Rowan advised me that the driveway had restriction in it which the crane required to complete the move, would break away the edges as it was not wide enough. Then with the yacht on Rowans low-loader, if it did make it to the top of the driveway he would have had no room to articulate his trailer. The final verdict from Rowan was “Hmmmm get 20 tonne of gravel and a front end loader and it may work”. I was grateful to Rowan for his expert advice, but really liked the property to. I called the local yacht store in Freo to find another removalist for a second opinion. The guy at yacht store asked had I spoke with Rowan Chick, I said yeah, he said “then you spoke with the best, we don’t recommend anyone else”.

I was overdue to get back to work, had not found a suitable place and was well stretching my luck with the past owner by not moving Diomedea. When a work mate came through big time and put me onto the best place I could have hoped to find and more, thanks Mr P.

Before the MoveThe yacht move was made very easy employing the most trusted local Yacht transportation specialist Rowan Chick. The price was very reasonable and they turned up early. When I arrived that early morning for the move I was surprised by how large the trailer was lol. There is really not much more to say about the move other than watch the video.

I was nervous about standing Diomedea up (supporting her on the ground). I took Rowan’s advice and was prepared with materials he requested and left it to him. He made it look so easy and left instructions on how to stabilise all the supports for safety. The following day the yachts landlords had already made a start on bracing the support props for me. They gave me further assistance, instructions, materials and tools to do the job. That’s one of the fastest and most efficient jobs I have ever been a part of, thank you Miss B and MR R.
